The Preston Guild Amateur Athletic sports were held at West Cliff on 8th September 1882, when £200 prize money was offered. The was a good attendance in glorious weather and the bicycle events were a one mile local handicap, one and two miles open handicap and a three miles scratch race.
This is the only recorded bicycle race to be held at West Cliff, the attraction of Deepdale, Preston North End's ground, probably ensured that bicycle racing never took off at West Cliff. The cricket ground still exists and Preston Cricket Club still play there.
