The first bicycle racing at Eastville was Bristol Harriers athletics festival on 24th April 1897, the six events included two bicycle open handicap races over one and three miles, both of the races were won by H Appleton of Bristol Wheelers CC. Bristol Harriers organised several more sports meetings in conjunction with Bristol South Cycling Club.
The summer meeting on 5th June 1897 had two open handicap bicycle races over half and one mile, and two club events for Bristol South CC. In the club one mile handicap there was practically no racing until the last lap' when H England sprinted to victory by a wheel. In the three miles club championship race, won by J Cambridge, England and R Alden, last years winner, fought for second place, which went to England, but Alden lodged a protest for boring' him with his pedal. The attendance was reported to be poor and a number of spectators came on the ground from everywhere but the gates.'
There did not seem to be much bicycle racing at Eastville after 1900, although the Bristol Licensed trade held their annual carnival meetings at the ground from 1904 and included bicycle racing.
Greyhound racing started at Eastville in 1928 and the grass track was utilised for a short flurry of sports meetings. Bristol Constabulary AC held their annual sports there in 1931 and incorporated the NCU Bristol Centre quarter mile championship race. In 1932 the police sports had one and five mile bicycle races and there was an attendance of 5,000 spectators. After this, there was no more bicycle racing at Eastville.
There was speedway at the stadium when the Newport Wasps team re-located to Bristol in 1977 and changed their name to Bristol Bulldogs. This venture only lasted for two years. The stadium was also the home Bristol Bombers American Football team in 1986. Bristol Rovers ran into financial difficulties in 1986 and were forced to move, after over a hundred years at Eastville, they went to play at Twerton Park in Bath. Bristol Rovers moved back to Bristol ten years later to play at the Memorial Stadium. Greyhound racing was held at Eastville until 1997, when the ground was sold. The stadium was demolished in 1998 and the site is now an IKEA superstore.
