St Mirren Football Club moved into the ground in 1879 and the first bicycle racing at there was at the St Mirren FC amateur athletic sports on 24th July 1881. There was a two miles local handicap bicycle race, which had six competitors, the ground was heavy from rain and the scratch man, J Gibson from the Victoria Bicycle Club, won easily. The course was eleven laps for the two miles and the attendance was over 3,000. The sports were continued a week later with an open two miles bicycle handicap race.
The St Mirren sports were held again on 22nd and 29th July 1882, they extended over two days, with local events on the first day and open events on the second. The two miles bicycle handicap race was one of the best ever seen in Paisley, RW Drummond, the Renfrewshire crack off scratch, steadily worked his way through the field and on the last lap he caught W Thomson on the back straight and his brother John Drummond, and went on to win with a little in hand. The time of 8 min 37 sec was slow because of the heavy ground. The attendance was around five thousand.
After 1882, St Mirren left the ground and moved to Westmarch and bicycle racing at Thistle Park came to an end. The Olympic FC and Dykebar FC both moved to the ground after St Mirren left, but there was no bicycle racing. Abercorn FC and also played at Thistle Park. There was football at Thistle Park until the 1890s.
